Discover the History of Your Finnish Firearm
Like a work of art, all firearms have unique markings that can be traced. The chronology of ownership is called the provenance. There are records for over 100,000 individual Finnish-made firearms in various Finnish archives. Apart from ownership records, these records also provide information about repairs and modifications made to the firearms, battles they fought in and shooting competitions they won.
If two almost identical firearms are valued, the one with known provenance will almost always have higher market value than the other without provenance. Very rare or one of a kind rifles are also hard or even impossible to authenticate without archival research.
When the European War began in 1939, Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 rifles, being the standard rifles of the Soviet Army, were involved in nearly every battle. The sniper rifle variants also played an important role, earning their reputation as reliable and lethal weapons from urban battles such as the Battle of Stalingrad. Serial Number: 50819. Year of Manufacture: 1937. Caliber: 7.62x54R (7.62x54mm Rimmed) Action Type: Bolt Action, Fixed Magazine. Markings: The import mark on the right rear of the receiver reads “MARATHON PROD, INC NC / W-W”. The barrel shank is marked with “2 / Sako symbol / S.K.Y. / 50819 / 1937”. Mosin Nagant 91/30 serial, markings and other things of interest. OKay after going through all my cleaning, I must say I have a very beautiful Mosin Nagant. Though I am perplexed by the serial numbers, I do know it is a Tula made in 1942. Stock Marking I discovered is a Arms depot/refurbishment mark from a Soviet facility located in Ukraine. If you want a Mosin with maximum battle action, get a pre-war Finn. These are mostly M-27's, M-28's and M28/30's, with a mix of early model M-91's as well. When Finland felt the Red Army's hammerstroke in 1939 they had to call up every possible asset, including pretty much every Mosin in the country. She’s a numbers matching no hand-guard 1917 Remington with serial 240743. It’s still 7.62x54R and marked same as you have pictured, but also includes the Finnish army “SA” and some other.
